West Ham targeting Edin Dzeko

AS Roma are ready to let Edin Dzeko leave the club at the end of the season. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has been rumoured to be on the verge of leaving the club, as we wrote recently, but now it seems like Sky in Italy has even more information about the potential departure.

Roma are reportedly ready to let the Bosnian go, as his current contract ends in June 2020. This will be their last chance to make a profit on his transfer and having in mind Dzeko is already 33 and his performances are slowly slowing down, it makes sense for Roma to let him go and make space for a younger striker.

After Inter Milan and Everton were rumoured to be interested, now it seems like West Ham are leading the race to land Dzeko this summer. Roma are demanding £20m f…

Zidane: James must learn lesson from Wolfsburg

Zinedine Zidane hopes to see James Rodriguez learn from his mistakes after he caused controversy during Real Madrid s Champions League loss to Wolfsburg on Wednesday.

The Colombia international, who has been used sparingly by Zidane since he took charge in January, was pictured laughing while warming up on the sidelines despite his side being 2-0 down.

With James father having claimed publicly that the change of coach at the Santiago Bernabeu has been bad news for his son s career, the future of the 2014 World Cup top-scorer has become increasingly uncertain.

However, while he felt the incident was a mistake, Zidane now hopes that the 24-year-old puts it behind him.

I d like to avoid it. You learn from these things. It s an episode that nobody likes, but…

Marquinhos wants to avoid repeat of Chelsea mistakes

Marquinhos is keen for Paris Saint-Germain to avoid the errors of last season when they meet Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League last 16.

PSG exited the 2013-14 Champions League at the hands of Chelsea in the quarter-finals, throwing away a 3-1 first-leg lead as the London club progressed on away goals.

Monday s draw threw up a repeat of that tie, and Brazilian defender Marquinhos is eager to ensure that the Ligue 1 champions get revenge on the Premier League leaders.

At this level, there are only great teams, Marquinhos told PSG TV. We will train, work hard, to prepare for the two games. Chelsea have already won the Champions League and is at the top of their championship. They will give everything to qualify.

The elimination suffered last season w…

Bale ´on the road´ to enjoying football again after another LAFC win

Gareth Bale is yet to start for Los Angeles FC, but already life seems a little bit better in MLS for the much-maligned former Real Madrid forward.

Bale has joined LAFC after leaving Madrid, where he won five Champions League titles but was criticised for appearing to prioritise his international career with Wales.

The 33-year-old will lead his country into the Qatar World Cup last this year, yet he is first having an impact at LAFC.

Bale has made three appearances from the bench for a total of 71 minutes, scoring against Sporting Kansas City last week.

The former Tottenham man s latest 28-minute shift against the Seattle Sounders on Friday was his longest yet, helping LAFC to see out a 2-1 win courtesy of Carlos Vela s goal shortly before half-time.

Higuain: I knew I could break the record

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain admitted he was confident he would break the Serie A scoring record, as long as he was able to stay calm.

Higuain scored his 35th and 36th Serie A goals of 2015-16 as Napoli closed out their season with a 4-0 win over Frosinone on Saturday.

The goals meant Higuain, 28, eclipsed Gunnar Nordahl s record of 35 goals in a single Serie A season, set all the way back in 1950.

Argentina international Higuain revealed he was confident of reaching the mark ahead of the final day of the 2015-16 season.

It is an immense joy to have been able to surpass that mark, he told Mediaset post-game.

I want to thank my family and everyone at Napoli including the team and the coaching staff.

I feel very proud becau…

Bierhoff: Germany are favourites against Italy

Oliver Bierhoff believes Germany are a stronger side than Italy and will advance to the Euro 2012 final.

Bierhoff acknowledges that there are obvious parallels between the teams semi-final showdown and their epic last-four encounter at the 2006 World Cup, but is confident his side has what it takes to progress to the decider.

Six years ago, the Azzurri were crowned world champions despite dealing with a match-fixing scandal back home and defeated Germany in Dortmund along the way. History could now very well repeat itself, given the current Italy side s preparations for the Euros were overshadowed by Scommessopoli.

However, Bierhoff, who spent a decade plying his trade in Serie A, feels it far more likely that Joachim Loew s side will gain revenge for their 200…

Messi always deserves it – Van Dijk happy to forget about Ballon d´Or

Virgil van Dijk insists Lionel Messi should win the Ballon d Or despite his own star turn in a victorious Champions League final for Liverpool.

Centre-back Van Dijk was named man of the match as Jurgen Klopp s side claimed the trophy with a 2-0 win over Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Liverpool went ahead inside two minutes through a Mohamed Salah penalty and were grateful to Van Dijk and goalkeeper Alisson for keeping Spurs at bay before Divock Origi sealed the win with a late second.

Van Dijk won the PFA Players Player of the Year for his performances in the Premier League in 2018-19 and is likely to be among the favourites for the next Ballon d Or after his display on Saturday.

However, the Netherlands international said there should only be one …

QPR 2/5 to stay up after recruiting top defensive talent this summer

Competition: Premier League
Market: QPR to stay up
Odds:

With Rio Ferdinand and Steven Caulker likely to be Queens Park Rangers’ partnership at the heart of the defence this season, the Londoners are expected to remain in the division, despite being recently promoted via the playoffs.

After suffering relegation from the Premier League in 2012/13, finishing bottom of the table with 25 points from 38 games, manager Harry Redknapp made big changes to the squad. He based his team around a more UK-core and phased out the foreign stars who greatly underperformed. It delivered their immediate return to the English top flight, and now Redknapp has continued to build a strong squad with Premier League experience.

Ferdinand and Caulker played for Manchester …

PSG´s Villeneuve on the brink after blast at board

French giants Paris St Germain were mired in a boardroom crisis on Monday with club president Charles Villeneuve facing the axe over his role in a power struggle.

The former TV journalist, who only took over as president last May, set the stage for the clash by sending a scathing letter to his fellow board members demanding more powers for himself and denouncing the way the club is run.

This enraged the club s main shareholders Colony Capital and, according to the L Equipe sports daily, the company s head representative at Paris St German, Sebastien Bazin, is set to fire Villeneuve and assume his position.

In the meantime the rest of the club s board of directors have announced their resignation ahead of a new council meeting in two weeks time at which a success…

Be better – Gullit calls for Van Dijk improvement

Virgil van Dijk must be better for Netherlands if he is to win the Ballon d Or, according to Ruud Gullit.

Gullit called for the Liverpool defender to help cut out the errors that have dogged Ronald Koeman s team.

After winning the Champions League with Liverpool, Van Dijk helped his country reach the Nations League final, where they were beaten 1-0 by Portugal, and Koeman received widespread plaudits for turning the Oranje s fortunes around following their failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

But Gullit, who won the Ballon d Or in 1987 ahead of the Netherlands triumph at the 1988 European Championship, called for Van Dijk to inspire improvement in the Dutch defence.

Speaking to Omnisport about Van Dijk at the Costa Smeralda Invitational golf event,…
